Concept Air

Client: Ideal Standard

Robin has been designing for Ideal Standard for over 35 years, the last 30 with long-standing colleague Dave Tilbury.

We were commissioned by Ideal Standard to make a bathroom ‘design trends’ study across Europe. One of our main suggestions was lightness, finer edges, smaller foot prints, a response to the environmental need to use less materials.

Having identified this trend, Ideal Standard asked us to create a second generation of the Concept range with a light theme. A key element of Concept Air is the concave profile which is most strongly expressed on the WCs and the freestanding bath. This gives an impression of 'growing' forms and highlights the finer edges.

The project also gave us the chance to develop a practical feature for the shower screen on the bath that we had long wanted to do. A narrow hinged panel next to the wall provides access to the shower controls to run the cold water off before getting into the shower.
